We finally got to sample Chir Chir’s popular korean fried chicken a while back, when we had dinner there together with C’s parents. The outlet that we patronised was located at Chinatown Point, which was conveniently connected to Chinatown MRT station (and easily accessible by the Downtown Line or North-East Line).
Luckily for us, we went in before the dinner crowd started to arrive, and were seated almost immediately. We ordered a single portion of mac n cheese, as well as nest snow and honey butter chicken (both of which only came in sharing portions for 2 people).
I have something of an aversion to macaroni, and hence only took a small portion to sample. It was rather cheesy, and tasted average in my opinion. C seemed to really like it though, but then again she’s a mac ‘n’ cheese fan!
Probably the most instagrammed dish of Chir Chir, the Nest Snow arrived at our table looking real fine indeed. The whipped cream topping looked rather intimidating to be honest, but lent itself very nicely for a nice photo. I was not too impressed with the sweet potato mash, which I felt lacked the required savouriness. The cajun chicken tenders dipped in the rich cream sauce and smeared with grated cheese were really yummy. This dish is definitely worth getting if you ever eat here.
We also ordered the honey butter chicken to share among ourselves. Contrary to what its name suggested, the dish consisted of not only crispy boneless fried chicken chunks, but potato wedges & Korean rice cakes as well. These were all coated with a generous layer of honey butter sauce and loads of sugar, and we all had trouble finishing this as it was simply too sweet. Don’t get me wrong though, this dish was tasty, just that it was a bit too sweet for our palates. Sharing this among 4 of us was just nice though, and I cannot imagine having to eat this with only C.
A decent Korean fried chicken restaurant, although for the price range I would have expected slightly better. Definitely a place to go in larger groups, so that you would be able to try a wider variety of food, and not have to share a huge plate of honey butter chicken between 2 persons.
