Located just a minute’s walk from Ploen Chit BTS station, Novotel Ploenchit is situated in a really good location within Bangkok. From Ploen Chit BTS, it is just 1 stop to Chitlom BTS (Central World, Pratunam area), and 2 stops to Siam BTS (interchange for MRT & BTS, Siam Paragon & Siam Centre).
The hotel’s main driveway might be rather small compared to other 4-star hotels, but the staff there are friendly and proactively come to greet you as you step foot into the property.
The lobby exuded a minimalist chic vibe, and check-in was a breeze with the friendly associate at the front desk.
Standard Twin Room
We had booked a standard room for about S$150 for 1 night, without breakfast.
The hallway had a bit of a W hotel feel to it, with dim lighting and quirky lighted room numbers, although it was definitely not as over-the-top.
The room itself was decently-sized, and had a day lounger near the window, although the views were nothing spectacular. The beds were quite comfortable, and you could also order a pillow from the pillow menu should you wish.
The ensuite bathroom had an open-concept, meaning that the person in the room could see the person bathing/washing up at the sink. Thankfully there were motorized blinds that could be pulled down to provide some privacy. Also thankfully, the toilet was located in a separate section with a separate door that closed it off from the main bathroom. Despite it being a non-smoking floor, the toilet somehow stank of stale smoke, one of the only negatives from our stay there.
There was also a door next to the minibar, and it probably led to the adjoining room. That would be perfect for large families that book adjoining rooms, as they could simply open this door to enter the other room.
Some of the amenities provided in the room include:
- In-room slippers (pretty decent quality)
- Electric kettle
- Free Wifi
The hotel’s fitness centre was at Level 9, and opening hours are from 6am-10pm daily. The gym was adequately fitted out, and had a good selection of weight machines, free weights, and cardio machines (elliptical & treadmill).
I loved that there were also ice-cold towels and cold water (both normal & orange-infused) provided for gym-users. I had been to a number of hotel gyms that had neither, and it was really disappointing.
The pool was also at Level 9, but it was rather small, and only about 1.3m deep. In reality, it was more of a dipping pool than a lap pool, and there were some lounge chairs at the side for guests to relax. The pool opens from 6am-8pm, which is unfortunate for guests who wish to take a late night dip.
We did not have time to hang out at the bar/lounge, but it seemed pretty happening at night, with a live band playing and guests dancing. We took a look at the menu and the prices food & drinks were quite reasonable as well.
I enjoyed my stay at Novotel Ploenchit, and was impressed by the well-appointed fitness centre, despite the small size of the hotel. The wifi was free and quite fast, and it was easy to connect to. The room was also spacious enough to move around comfortably in, and I appreciated the close proximity of the hotel to Ploen Chit BTS, which was in a central location, and a good place to base oneself in.
