Before releasing the blog posts on the last segment of my trip to Japan (Tokyo), here’s a restaurant review for a change! 🙂
Budaejiggae or Korean army stew, was something that C had been bugging me to go eat for quite a while.
Located along Temple Street, Gum Gang Won serves Korean BBQ as well as ala carte Korean dishes.
The restaurant itself has both indoor as well as outdoor seating. We sat indoors since we expected to sweat a bit hahaha. We ordered the budaejiggae (S$42.70) and barley water (S$2 for free-flow) to share.
The sausages felt a bit ‘cheap’ and of low-quality, which was rather disappointing. The chicken meat was pretty decent though, and the luncheon meat was ok. The stew was also served with various vegetables and tofu. The waitress came by a few times to check on the stew, and informed us when it was cooked and ready to eat.
Side dishes were also served along with it, and I really liked the sweet potato, the stir-fried anchovies, and the kimchi. The side dishes were all refillable, and we got seconds for a few of the items.
Loved the side dishes, but the supposed main highlight (Korean army stew) was rather disappointing. We did not get to try their Korean BBQ though, which did smell rather delicious. A group of Koreans also came in to have their dinner there, so I guess their other dishes are not that bad. Possibly worth another try, but definitely not for the army stew.
