Shin-Sapporo Ramen currently has 3 outlets in Singapore; 1 at Century Square, 1 at Alexandria Retail Centre, & 1 at Orchard Gateway. C and I went to the outlet at Orchard Gateway for lunch a couple of weekends ago. I am actually in Japan now on holiday wheeee~
There is direct access from Somerset MRT to Orchard Gateway, and Shin-Sapporo Ramen can be found next to Alfero Artisan Gelato, which has delicious gelato btw. 🙂 Here’s a pic of C laughing awkwardly as she was spotted by the waitress inside, while I was busy taking this pic far away. Hahaha :p
I didn’t get many shots of the interior, but it was not exceptionally big if I recall. It should be able to seat around 50-60 diners though. The pic below is rather horrible, I apologise.
Anyway back to the food! Here is my Kuro Tonkutsu Ramen (S$14.80++). I got it because the stock was made with black garlic oil, and I like garlic! The ramen comes with half an egg, 2 slices of kurobuta (char siew), & 1 piece of nori. You can choose an additional free topping (1 slice of kurobuta/half egg/1 piece of nori), and I got another slice of kurobuta, cos it was the best value for money! :p The kurobuta was pretty big, and as I had 3 slices in my bowl, it was pretty filling as well. The broth is pretty good, although a tad salty. Oh well, I’m quite a sucker for salty food. I do like my fries salted (and preferably with truffle oil) hahaha.
C’s Wakayama Tonkutsu-Shoyu Ramen (S$14.80++) is pictured below. The broth was lighter than the black garlic oil one, as it was a blend of tonkutsu (pork) broth & shoyu seafood stock. It was still pretty tasty nonetheless.
The ramen here is pretty legit, and the soup broth is quite tasty too, although as mentioned earlier, a tad salty. Although not the cheapest ramen joint around, it is pretty value for money as you can get up to 3 slices of kurobuta (char siew), if you choose it as your additional free topping! Compared to other ramen places where you get 1 slice of kurobuta, or maybe 2 slices for around S$11-13++. Heck, some ramen places don’t even give you half an egg! So yes, I do find Shin-Sapporo Ramen rather good, and would probably come by again in the near future. I should ask them to go easy on the salt the next time around though hahaha.
