C and I went to Sahara Bar & Restaurant one muggy evening in August to celebrate our monthsary (belatedly). She had gone there once before, and really enjoyed the food, so she requested that we have dinner there. Although the name of the restaurant sounds a bit dodgy (personal opinion), I said ok, so we ended up there on that evening.
The restaurant is found along the stretch of restaurants lining the Boat Quay area, and isn’t too difficult to find. We walked over from Clarke Quay, but it is also possible to walk from Raffles Place mrt.
Lighting was pretty bad, but that was to be expected, since it’s supposed to give off the late-night bar-vibes. So, no pictures of the restaurant, but I will leave you with pictures of the food we had that evening! 🙂
Here’s the Kebab Koobideh Chicken (S$20++), which is actually chargrilled minced chicken blended with onion and spices. I’m a huge fan of onion, and this had quite a lot of onion, which I enjoyed of course. :p Oh yes, this classifies as a main, so you get to choose a naan to go with it. I chose the garlic naan (yes, I love garlic too!). I really liked the meat, and it went very well with the garlic naan and the sauce on the side (no idea what it was but it was delicious, and I finished it all!).
C went with the C’evapi (S$18++), which is actually a Bosnian dish of sausages (mix of lamb & beef). They taste really authentic, and brought us back to our time in Eastern Europe about 2 years ago~ Ahhh..
And a butter naan (S$4++) to go with it!
We walked around a bit after that to digest, and then went to +39 Gelato Bar (29 Circular Road) for their amazing gelato. Here’s a bonus pic of that; we had matcha & hazelnut. It was pretty expensive (I think close to S$10 for this cup?), but it was pretty darn good, and definitely worth it.
The Sahara Bar & Restaurant serves authentic eastern european cuisine, and I would definitely go back for a cevapi or kebab fix! 😀 You might want to note though that the outdoor seating area is a smoking zone, and besides cigarette smoke, you will get the occasional shisha smoke as well. And of course, since you’re already in the area, do get some delish gelato at +39 Gelato Bar, which is just round the corner on Circular Road.
