Montana Brew Bar is apparently rather famous for its waffles, and C really likes waffles for some reason, so.. We found ourselves there for tea a few weeks ago!
The cafe occupies a small area next to Ya Kun, on the ground level of PoMo shopping mall. Tbh, there’s really not much shopping you can do at PoMo.. There are however, a number of eateries scattered around the ground level and basement level of the mall.
The cafe is simply decorated, with wooden tables and comfortable chairs (if you sit on the cushioned ones, not the hard metallic ones :p). You order and pay at the counter, and get a electronic buzzer, which will buzz when your order is ready. Oh yes, they do not charge service charge and GST, so all the prices you see on their menu is nett-priced.
As you can see from the pic above, there aren’t that many seats, and can get crowded easily. Hopefully you guys will not have to queue when you visit! 🙂
I got a Gibraltar (S$4), which consists of 2 shots of espresso and steamed milk. It was pretty good, although quite acidic, so if you like your coffee sweeter, get a latte instead.
The chocolate banana waffles (S$10.50) was pretty good. You can choose between 2 options for how you like the waffles done; crunchy or soft. We chose the crunchy option as we like our waffles that way! 😉 The choc waffles go really well with the ice cream, although if you eat the waffles and banana alone w/o the ice cream, it is rather dry. Sadly, not a lot of ice cream was given, so we had to ration it on the waffles.
The star of this cafe is undoubtedly the red velvet waffle stack (S$10.50). My first thought upon seeing this was: “Hey this looks pretty!”. My second thought was: “Where’s the last 1/4 of my waffle!?!?!” I have absolutely no clue where my last 1/4 waffle went.. 😦 That aside, this was really awesome. The red velvet waffles had a yogurt-y aftertaste, and the ice cream portion was generous. One of the best (if not the best) waffles with ice cream that I’ve ever tasted!
They’re also pretty famous for their fried chicken waffle, although both C and I are turned off by savoury waffles, so we passed. I guess if you’re a fan of savoury waffles, you could give it a try! 🙂
A pretty small cafe located in a rather sad little mall, although it serves some delicious dessert waffles and coffee. It is rather simply decorated, and quite a nice spot to chill out. However, as it opens out into the mall, there’s no real privacy, so it can get rather noisy especially when there are many people going for their lessons (apparently there’s some private uni there). Oh a fun fact, Montana Brew Bar shares space with Nookie, which faces the pathway outside the mall.
