I’ve been meaning to try the cakes at The Fabulous Baker Boy for quite a while now, and I’m happy to say that I’ve finally done so! Yippee! I’ve heard many good things about the cakes there, so I was really happy that C agreed to go with me after lunch at nearby Clarke Quay. 🙂
The Fabulous Baker Boy is located at the foot of Fort Canning Park, but fret not, you don’t have to navigate through the park to find it! Nor do you have to hike/walk/run through the park hahaha. It is a short walk from either Clarke Quay and City Hall MRT. On this occasion, we had lunch at Clarke Quay and then walked over, before walking to City Hall MRT (after having our cakes of course).
The café was partly hidden by the trees, but thankfully there are ample signs in the area that will lead you to it haha.
It’s pretty spacious, and it was empty when we were there because they were preparing for a private event that evening. Luckily for us, they were still open for customers who came for cakes and drinks, although no orders for cooked dishes would be taken. That suited us fine, since we were there for the cakes anyway hahaha. 😀
Look at C’s greedy hands clasped together in anticipation of devouring the cakes. :p JUST KIDDING! Please don’t be angry hahaha. 🙂 But yea, the cakes look really good eh? I would have been doing the same thing, except I was busy taking pics hahaha.
The salted caramel cake (S$8.50++/slice) was really good! It was rather decadent though haha. I felt that the chococalety taste overpowered the salted caramel at times, but overall I still loved it. The ball on top is made of malt, and kinda tastes like a milo ball haha, which was a nice touch to the cake.
The red velvet cake with cream cheese (S$9++/slice) was also good, although I still preferred the salted caramel one over this haha. The cream cheese frosting is just nice, and not too sweet, and I liked that the cake was moist (not too hard and not too soft). The moist cakes are common across both the salted caramel and red velvet cakes, and I guess that’s what made the cakes so tasty and enjoyable haha.
Here’s a nice pic of C and the cakes. 😀 We were really stuffed after lunch and the cakes, and sat there in a food coma for a while hahaha.
The café can seat quite a lot of people, although we heard it can still get pretty crowded during the weekends. I guess we were lucky that we were the only ones there haha, and service was fast. The cakes were really good, and I would definitely come back to try even more cakes! The downside is that the food (and cakes) here is really expensive, and gets even more expensive when GST and service charge is added on. 😦 It’s still worth going just to try the awesome cakes, but perhaps it would be wise to have your meal elsewhere and just come for dessert. 🙂
