We arrived in Nürnberg quite late in the afternoon after leaving Munich. While in Nürnberg, we stayed at a hotel within the old town (Alstad) and which was only a 5-10min walk from the central train station. The old town is very walkable, and with a good map, we found our way around quite easily and didn’t need to take the metro at all. 🙂
After checking into Hotel Victoria, we left our luggage in our room, which was on the top floor of the hotel.
Being on the top floor has its perks haha, one of which was having this great view from our window! 🙂
We headed out to explore the area near our hotel, but it was rather dark, so we didn’t take many pics. We had dinner at a nearby place, and also had some ice cream at a café before heading back to the hotel to rest early.
The sky was quite cloudy when we left the hotel after breakfast.
We visited some cathedrals within the old town, and even spent some time listening to an organ player practicing in one of the cathedrals. Organ music is really something else 🙂
We passed by some nice canals as well as we walked around the old town.
And came across a wedding! Hahah what a happy couple!
We passed this outside one of the cathedrals, and it looked really pretty. I’ve no idea what this was though, so if anyone could enlighten me, I would be grateful.
We found this row of pretty houses as we walked to the castle, and couldn’t help but stop and snap pics hahaha.
Nürnberg has a really pretty old town, and it was fun walking around. This was taken near the city walls, close to Albrecht Durer’s House.
On the metal bridge along the city walls.
Stumbled across this bridge over a canal as we were walking around, and it reminded me of the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne haha.
More bridge pics haha.
The streets and houses within the old town of Nürnberg are pretty as well. 🙂
We were beginning to feel hungry by this time, and headed over to an old restaurant for lunch.
Arriving at Zum Golden Stern, a traditional and very old restaurant in Nürnberg. They’ve been serving great sausages since 1419! :O
Entering the restaurant, where the smell of sausages being grilled permeated the air. Mmmm 🙂 We quickly sat down and ordered, and didn’t have to wait long before our food was served! Yay!
Superb potato salad yum 😀
SO MANY SAUSAGES! I personally liked the smaller sausages, and boy were they tasty hehe. They were all grilled to perfection, and had a nice smoky flavor to them. 🙂
After an awesome lunch, we headed over to the old castle on foot. To work off those fats. Hahaha.
It’s an uphill climb to reach the entrance of the castle, so thankfully it wasn’t winter or I’d probably be frozen solid by the time I reached the top. It was still cold though in August, as you can tell by me wearing a jacket in the pic haha.
There’s a pretty garden within the castle grounds, and the flowers were all blooming prettily. 🙂
We walked around the castle grounds, and it was quite cool seeing all the medieval fortifications still standing and intact despite the city being bombed in WWII.
Gazing down the battlements~
We had dinner at a bar/restaurant near our hotel, and for once we didn’t have any sausages hahaha. The burgers were really good, and I would totally go back again, although I can’t remember the name of the place.
The interior of the bar/restaurant. I thought it was quite cool how they used tree trunks to ‘prop’ up the ceiling haha.
Yummy burgers! I guess it was a welcome change of cuisine since we had been having German sausages for nearly every meal hahaha.
Our last day was rather short, as we had to catch an afternoon train back to Amsterdam, but we managed to fit in time for some shopping along Breitgasse and Karolinenstrasse.
And of course, there’s always time for a last German brätwurst hahaha :p
I really like Germany a lot, and have been to Berlin, Köln (Cologne), and Düsseldorf as well. Looking forward to when I can visit Germany again! 🙂
