Skinny Pizza has been around for quite some time now, and has a few outlets scattered all over Singapore. What sets their pizzas apart from other pizzas is their pizza base. Skinny just about describes the pizza base, which unlike traditional pizzas, is flaky and crunchy. Even thin-crust pizzas do not come close to rivalling Skinny Pizza’s pizza base haha.
The outlet I visited was at Raffles City Shopping Centre, which contrary to what its name suggests, is NOT at Raffles Place MRT, but rather it’s at City Hall MRT. The mall is directly connected to City Hall MRT, so simply follow the directions leading you to it. The restaurant is located at the basement level (B1), together with many other restaurants and cafés.
The restaurant is in an open area, so you’ll be able to see shoppers walking around, and even diners at the other restaurant next to it. We arrived at the restaurant around 1.15pm on a Sunday, and it wasn’t very crowded as you can tell from the pic above.
The menu is pretty extensive, and in addition to their signature pizzas, they also serve pastas, salads, and other small bites. We ordered 3 pizzas and a serving of truffle fries to share among the five of us.
This was the truffle mushroom pizza, which I found to be a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was because the truffle taste was kind of masked by the mushrooms, and I didn’t really like the type of mushrooms they used haha. Yes, I can be quite picky like that. :p
Squid ink pizza!!! This was my favourite of the bunch, which was a surprise because I usually don’t like squid ink risottos haha. This pizza was good, although the black pizza crust does look a bit unsightly.
This was the English Breakfast pizza, and true to its name, it was topped with stuff you’d normally get with an English Breakfast (bacon, eggs, tomatoes, etc). The bacon strips were nice, although the eggs were rather tasteless, and didn’t enhance the overall taste of the pizza.
I really like truffle fries, and usually make it a point to try them whenever the restaurant has it on their menu. The truffle fries at Skinny Pizza were much better than those I’ve had at some other places, although they weren’t the best that I’ve tasted. These fries were not too soggy nor too hard, but were at the right consistency. The truffle taste is consistent throughout, although it would have tasted much better if they had sprinkled truffle flakes on top as well. The portion is also kind of small for S$9 (before GST).
Service was so-so, and the waiter who came to cut our pizza into slices didn’t do a good job, with the slices still stuck together.. The pizzas were different from those we normally eat, and felt more like paper pratas instead, which isn’t a bad thing actually. Personally though, I’d go for my thin-crust pizzas over this, just because I like to be able to bite into something more substantial haha. Out of the 3 pizzas we ordered, I only liked the squid ink one, while the others were just average. I would say that Skinny Pizza is worth a try, although it is my opinion that Pepperoni’s/Dominos/Sarpinos offer tastier pizzas that are more value for money (considering the size of the pizza).
