I was on holiday in Taipei with my gf in July 2014, and we stayed at SWIIO Hotel while we were there. I was browsing through hotels in the Ximending area of Taipei when I happened to chance upon this small boutique hotel. Most of my friends had previously stayed at Rainbow Hotel, and found that it was comfortable and convenient, although they did comment that the hotel looked very old. Thus, I wanted to find an accommodation that was newer yet still in a convenient location, and that’s exactly what I found in SWIIO.
SWIIO is located slightly off the main shopping street of Ximending, but it’s still easily accessible and only about a 10min walk from the Ximen MTR station. The hotel is actually within another building, and is not a stand-alone hotel. There were some shops and a TGIF restaurant on the first floor, and you have to take a lift up to the hotel lobby. SWIIO itself has an arty concept, with many pictures of art adorning the walls of the hotel. The lobby itself felt very homely and laid-back, with many sofas and soft chairs placed around it.
You’ll be able to access the upper floors of the hotel with the key card, and each floor has a small waiting area in front of the lifts, with a unique decor.

Standard Double Room
I booked the room directly through the hotel website as it was cheaper compared to the rates offered on 3rd-party booking sites. We stayed a total of 4 nights, and paid 1,890TWD (S$83) per night. WiFi was FREE, and the signal strength was strong throughout the property during our stay there, so yay! 🙂
The room was small, but in a cosy way. As we travel light, we only had hand-carry luggage, so we did not require a lot of space. However, if you have big check-in luggages, you might have some problems opening them out, as there was not much free space on the floor. There was a small cupboard with only a few clothes hangers, so there’s actually not much space and enough hangers to hang up all your clothes.

The next pic shows the view of the toilet from the perspective of you standing next to the cupboard. It was a very cosy space, as you can see how the toilet was almost literally next to the bed haha. The toilet itself was not very big either, and there was definitely insufficient space for more than one person to use the sink at the same time. Given how close the proximity of the toilet was (and the toilet bowl lol) to the bed, you’d better hope the person you’re travelling with doesn’t shit a lot, or at least hope that his/her shit isn’t very stinky. Alternatively, you can always force them to use the toilet at the lobby!

Some of the in-room amenities were:
- Mini-bar (with some free snacks and bottled water)
Bath products (soap & shampoo)
There were no gym, pool or meeting rooms within the hotel, so if you are looking to work up a sweat you would have to head to the nearby World Gym instead. Or you could go ice skating, like we did, at an ice skating rink in the Eslite building directly in front of the Ximen MTR exit.
SWIIO Hotel is a small boutique hotel located near the heart of Ximending, and in close proximity to the Ximen MTR station as well as the main shopping & food street. The rooms were small and cosy, and although there was no gym or swimming pool, you are unlikely to have the time to go to the gym or swim anyway! Especially if you’re busy eating and shopping, which you should be doing in Taipei! The staff were super friendly and helped us greatly during our stay there, even with unusual requests. I asked them to help me find an ASICS store nearby, and the staff called the store to help me check if the store was open and even asked for directions on how to get there. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to stay near the Ximending area! This is not a sponsored post.
